Social Studies - Bethany Kanach graduated from Central Connecticut State University with her Bachelors of Education. Mrs. Kanach is certified in Social Studies Education, Exceptional Student Education, Gifted, English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum, Elementary Education, and Reading Endorsement. Mrs. Kanach has been with Horizon Charter since 2006. She is married to Mr. Kanach and is the mother of a beautiful daughter and a handsome son.

Reading/Language Arts - Danny Pineyro graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in English from the University of Tampa. He teaches Middle Grades English and Reading and manages the After-school Program at Horizon Charter School of Tampa. He was born and raised in South Florida.

Math - Alexander Galing graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelors of Science degree, majoring in both Mathematics and Secondary Education. Mr. Galing has been employed at Horizon Charter school since 2013 and teaches middle school math, sponsors National Juniors Honors Society, and coaches the Math League team. He holds a certification to teach Mathematics 6-12, Mathematics 5-9, and has a Gifted Endorsement.

Science - Jason Pridham graduated from The University of South Florida with his Bachelor of Science in Education. Mr. Pridham is certified in Biology (6-12) and Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum. Prior to teaching at Horizon Charter, Mr. Pridham taught in Polk and Osceola County Public Schools for 10 years. Mr. Pridham loves to read, travel, and spend time with his wife and daughter.

ELA - Colleen Scionti is a graduate of Youngstown State University in Ohio. She received a B.S. in Elementary and Special Education. She moved to Florida in 1997 and has taught all grades Pre-K through 8th in both private and public schools in Hillsborough County. Ms. Scionti enjoys reading, cooking, and baking with her two sons.

Math - Adriana Farmer grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and moved to Tampa to attend college. She graduated from Florida College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She is certified in the areas of Elementary Education (K-6) and English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

ELA - Suzanne Abou-Elkhair graduated from University of Michigan with her Bachelors in Biology and a minor in Anthropology. After relocating to Florida, Mrs. Abou-Elkhair earned a Masters in Art in Teaching Elementary Education from the University of South Florida. She is certified in the areas of Elementary Education (K-6), English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and Social Science 5-9. She is married and is the mother of three sons.

Math Resource - Christa Richardson is a graduate of the University of South Florida with a degree in Elementary Education. She is certified in Elementary Education and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). Prior to teaching at Horizon Charter, Mrs. Richardson taught kindergarten, fourth grade, and was a math resource teacher for Hillsborough County Public Schools.

Science, Social Studies - Breana Pullara graduated from Thomas Universtiy with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Middle Grades Education. She is certified in Middle Grades English and Science. She is the current advisor for the school yearbook staff and news crew, while avidly striving to organize our first sports clubs.

Science - Allyson Thomley has a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of South Florida. She is certified in the areas of Elementary Education, Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum, Pre K-3, English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Exceptional Student Education, Gifted Education, Health, Physical Education, and Middle Grades Mathematics 5-9. She also maintains the website for HCST. Before becoming a teacher, she spent time working on a research and development project in the Microbiology field.

Kindergarten - John Kanach was born and raised on a dairy farm in New Jersey. After relocating to Florida in 1999, Mr. Kanach earned an Associate's Degree in Arts from St. Petersburg Junior College. He then transferred to the University of Tampa and received a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. He is married to Mrs. Kanach and they have a beautiful daughter and a handsome son. Mr. Kanach previously taught second grade and kindergarten at Hillsborough County Public Schools. He is certified in the areas of Elementary Education, English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and Exceptional Student Education.

Ms. Chong is a bilingual educator and has experience teaching third and fifth grade for Hillsborough County Schools.

She has experience teaching kindergarten, first, and second grade for Hillsborough County Schools. Mrs. Mariscal is certified to teach Elementary Education, Gifted Education, and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). She enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her husband and 3 dogs.

She has over nine years of experience working with children ages 2-15. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband and two sons.

Second Grade - Wendy Banning graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She is certified in Elementary Education and ESOL Endorsed. Ms. Banning has been an educator within the Hillsborough County School system since 1998. She is the mother of a daughter and loves to spend her free time reading, jewelry making and attending art shows.

Resource Teacher - Julie Macre has a Bachelor of Art Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Western Governor's University K-8, where she graduated Kappa Delta Pi and is a member of the International Honor Society in Education. She is also a member of the International Dyslexia Association. Mrs. Macre is certified in Elementary Education and Exceptional Student Education (ESE). Mrs. Macre moved to Florida 3 years ago from Texas and has taught Intermediate and Primary grades in Hillsborough and Pasco County Schools. She loves to travel, read, and spend time with her husband and two sons.

Principal Sheila Thomley is a veteran educator of grades 3-12, serving the State of Florida in both the Taylor and Hillsborough County School Districts. Her education includes: Florida State University - B.A. in Curriculum & Instruction, FAMU-M.Ed in Elementary Education, and Argosy University- Ed.S in Educational Leadership. Mrs. Thomley is certified in the areas of Elementary Education, Exceptional Student Education K-12 , English 6-12, English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and Educational Leadership K-12. She opened Tampa Charter as its Principal in 2003 and presided over the tranisition to Horizon Charter School of Tampa in 2014.

Assistant Principal Pamala Leonard has been with Horizon Charter since 2003 and has experience educating students in grade 3-8. She relocated to Tampa in 2002 with her husband and is now the mother of two daughters. She has a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Miami and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from University of South Florida. Mrs. Leonard is currently the Assistant Principal, ESE Specialist, Gifted Program Coordinator, and ELL Program Coordinator. She is certified in Educational Leadership, Middle Grades Mathematics, Elementary Education, Gifted Education, and Exceptional Student Education.

Lead Teacher Sylvia Matthews has a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Florida State University. She has taught grades 3-6 in the state in private schools, traditional public schools and charter schools. Mrs. Matthews is certified in all subjects for elementary grades 1-6 and in all subjects for the middle grades 6-9. Mrs. Matthews is certified for Elementary Education (Grades 1-6), all Middle Grades Subjects (5-9), Exceptional Student Education (ESE) and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). She is married and the mother of three sons.

Ethics Training and Reporting - Reporting of Ethical Misconduct

Reporting of Ethical Misconduct is required by law and is our duty as professionals entrusted with the safety and welfare of students every day. Florida Statute section 39.203 and section 768.095 protect the person reporting ethical misconduct from reprisal by the individual reported or the employer if the report was made in good faith without malicious intent. Horizon Charter School of Tampa requires that every employee report any issue that could currently or potentially impact the health, safety, or welfare of its students and school employees.


The process for reporting is as follows. Any incident that an employee believes is potentially harmful to a student or another employee should be immediately reported to their immediate supervisor, the Principal, or in the absence of those persons, to the Vice-President or President of Center Academy. Any employee who knowingly fails to report misconduct or abuse will be subject to discipline, up to and including termination.


In cases of suspected Physical Abuse, Sexual abuse or Neglect the employee should report those issues immediately to the 1-800-96Abuse hotline.

Notice: All employees will be required to complete ethics training on an annual basis as a condition of their employment with Horizon Charter School of Tampa.
